Peykan City, located in District 22 of Tehran, is facing serious problems as its buildings reach half a century of age. Nasser Amani, the head of the Human Resources Committee of the Islamic Council of Tehran, depicted the critical situation of this town in a council meeting and called for addressing the residents' demands.
Infrastructure Problems of Peykan City
The buildings in this town, which were inaugurated in 1973, are in poor condition due to a lack of fundamental renovation. The walls of some blocks are supported by steel beams, and the old facilities require immediate safety measures. One of the biggest challenges is the ambiguity of responsibilities; as some properties in this town are still owned by Iran Khodro, which hinders the municipality's effective action in all areas.

Water and Sewage Challenges
The water and sewage infrastructure of Peykan City is also in poor condition. The treatment plant of this town has been shut down, and the sewage network is not yet connected to the urban network. As a result, sewage disposal is done through absorption wells, which has become a serious crisis given the town's population. Previously, water storage resources could only supply water for a week, but now these resources have been depleted.
The existing schools in Peykan City are also facing similar problems. The educational buildings are dilapidated, sanitary facilities are in disrepair, and there is a lack of janitorial staff, which are among the issues students are facing. Additionally, the ownership documents of these schools are held by Iran Khodro, increasing residents' concerns about the future of educational activities.
The green space in Peykan City, covering 23 hectares, is not properly maintained, and the number of service personnel for this task is severely limited. Incidents such as falling tree branches on cars have increased in this town due to the lack of timely tree pruning.
The residents of Peykan City, who are mostly retirees, are also dissatisfied with the available healthcare services. The clinics in this area are unable to provide adequate services due to a shortage of specialized human resources.
It seems that the residents of Peykan City are awaiting transparent accountability and effective actions from the authorities in hopes of achieving a better life.
