He emphasized that the existing statistics indicate a disregard by some drivers for traffic laws, and these behaviors can lead to unfortunate incidents and irreparable damages.
Negative points and consequences of violations
Brigadier General Mousavi-Pour referred to the negative points assigned to accident-causing violators and stated: According to Article 7 of the Traffic Violation Handling Law, negative points are assigned to violators, which, if repeated, can lead to confiscation and ultimately revocation of their driver's license.
Based on his explanations, for the violation of "exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 kilometers per hour," private vehicles receive 10 negative points and public vehicles receive 15 negative points. Additionally, for the violation of "exceeding the speed limit by 30 to 50 kilometers per hour," private vehicles receive 5 negative points and public vehicles receive 10 negative points.
Brigadier General Mousavi-Pour also mentioned illegal overtaking, stating: For the violation of "illegal overtaking on two-way roads," private vehicles receive 5 negative points and public vehicles receive 10 negative points.
He emphasized that drivers whose licenses are revoked can apply for reissuance after one year and after completing legal procedures, including attending training courses and paying the relevant fees.
In conclusion, Brigadier General Mousavi-Pour reminded everyone of the primary goal of these measures, which is to preserve the lives of citizens and reduce accident statistics, urging all drivers to play their part in enhancing traffic safety in the capital by adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
