National Children's Week is an opportunity for Tehran to approach children and families with a new, participatory perspective as a child-friendly city. Various programs have been designed this week to allow children to actively participate in the urban space and express their most important related issues.

Special Programs for Children

The urban management of Tehran is trying to create a joyful and cultural space for children through programs such as children's participation in the offices of urban managers, the City Council, and holding festivals. One of these programs is the reading of the Shahnameh by children, which helps promote Iranian culture. Additionally, visiting the families of children who were martyrs in the imposed war and holding a playground design workshop for children under 13 are other initiatives of this week.

Creating a Space for Dialogue and Participation

Mehdi Amiri, the Director General of Citizen Education at Tehran Municipality, stated: "National Children's Week is an opportunity to view children not just as audiences of cultural programs but as citizens with rights, ideas, and viewpoints that should be seen and heard more in the urban space." This approach aims to create a diverse and joyful experience for children, where a participatory environment is also provided for families.

Other programs this week include the implementation of the 'Positive Childhood' plan, which offers special services in recreational and tourism centers. Additionally, the 'Childhood Kindness' program will be executed in care centers for children with special conditions and children's hospitals. These programs represent an effort to create a 'child-friendly city' where children are at the center of attention.

A New Experience for Children in Tehran

The Childhood City Festival in the 22 districts of Tehran is also part of these programs, aiming to create a dynamic and joyful environment for children. In these festivals, various cultural, artistic, and sports activities are planned for children, which can help strengthen their sense of belonging and identity towards their city.

By implementing various programs during National Children's Week, Tehran aims to show that children are not only the future builders of this city but also its current actors and should be considered in urban decision-making. This participation can lead to the creation of a happier, healthier, and friendlier city for all citizens, especially children.
