Masoud Lotfi, the CEO of Tehran Metro Operating Company, announced during a performance report on the metro fleet overhaul that the target for this year is to renovate 20 train sets. Given the increasing pressures on the fleet and the need to enhance service quality, this initiative has been prioritized as a key agenda item.

The Necessity of Renovating the Metro Fleet

Lotfi cited the rising demand for travel, the growth in daily train mileage, and the necessity of maintaining operational intervals as reasons for this action. According to him, these conditions have placed additional pressure on the existing fleet, making the overhaul and renovation of the fleet a necessity. This process plays a decisive role in reducing the likelihood of technical failures and ensuring continued service to citizens.

The CEO of the metro operating company also referred to the challenges in securing specialized parts and equipment, stating: "Limitations arising from the procurement of certain parts and specialized equipment have posed difficulties for us; therefore, precise planning and maximizing the use of domestic capacities, along with leveraging the knowledge and experience of the company's specialists, are the main pillars of advancing the fleet renovation program."

Successful Overhaul Operations

Lotfi noted the operational results of this program, stating that according to the approved plan for 2026, the overhaul of 2 locomotives and 10 wagons was scheduled, but in the past seven months, the overhaul of one locomotive and 12 wagons has been completed. This means that in the wagon section, the set target has been achieved, with two more units renovated than planned.

He also added: "The target set for this year is the overhaul of 20 train sets, of which 14 have been successfully refurbished and are ready for operation. This amount represents 70% of the annual target." These successes reflect the continuous efforts of technical and operational teams to improve the quality of metro services.

Emphasis on Safety and Order of Services

Lotfi further emphasized that the ultimate goal of these actions is to maintain existing operational intervals and provide safe, orderly, and sustainable services to passengers. He noted that given the increasing number of passengers and the need for better services, these projects are prioritized on the agenda. According to him, renovating the fleet not only helps enhance service quality but also leads to improved travel safety.

Ultimately, with the structured plans and continuous efforts for the renovation of the metro fleet, it is hoped that better services will be provided to citizens and existing problems will be minimized. These actions can be seen as an effective step towards improving public transportation in Tehran and its suburbs.
