The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while having focused heavily on relations with Western countries and neighbors in recent years, has relatively forgotten the African continent. This is while Africa, as a continent with abundant economic and commercial potentials, can play an important role in Iran's economic development.

Economic Opportunities in Africa

Hamed Pashamohammadi, an Iranian trader residing in Tanzania, clearly points out that the African continent has rich natural resources and growing markets that can create unique opportunities for Iranian traders. He believes that countries like Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Kenya, due to their favorable economic growth and demand for Iranian goods, can be considered target markets for the export of Iranian products.

Creating Communication Bridges

Pashamohammadi also emphasizes the need to create supportive mechanisms for Iranian traders. He states that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can help strengthen trade relations by establishing effective communications between economic actors of the two countries. For example, holding exhibitions, conferences, and joint seminars can lead to a better understanding of African markets and their needs.

This Iranian trader clearly states that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should play a greater role in supporting Iranian traders and, through economic diplomacy, create the groundwork for expanding relations with African countries. He notes that given the existing economic sanctions, diversifying export markets can help Iran reduce its dependence on specific countries and increase its foreign exchange revenues.

Risks and Challenges

However, Pashamohammadi does not overlook the challenges present on this path. He points to the lack of sufficient knowledge about African markets as well as administrative and legal issues in these countries. Moreover, the lack of accurate information regarding trade and financial laws in these countries can be a significant barrier for Iranian traders. For this reason, he suggests that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related organizations should assist traders by providing necessary consultations and accurate information to help them enter these markets with greater confidence.

Ultimately, Hamed Pashamohammadi emphasizes that to take advantage of the existing opportunities in the African continent, there is a need for a long-term and comprehensive strategy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He believes that with cooperation and close communication between the government and the private sector, Iran can become one of the key players in African markets, and in this regard, economic collaborations can help strengthen the relationship between the two countries and increase social welfare.
