The Deputy Minister of Water and Wastewater of the Ministry of Energy emphasized the necessity of preparedness for various scenarios arising from the El Niño phenomenon, reporting on continuous monitoring of weather warnings and increased readiness to control potential floods. He also referred to the utilization of dam capacities and groundwater resources.
Attention to Weather Warnings
The Deputy Minister of Energy stated at a training workshop on links, forecasting systems, and warnings regarding the El Niño phenomenon: "The warnings issued timely by the Meteorological Organization have alerted the relevant agencies." He also emphasized that correspondence has been made with the Crisis Management Organization and governors in line with these warnings.

Janbaz, the Deputy Minister of Water and Wastewater, continued: "We must coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, and if necessary, take action for dredging. This issue is very important, as most provinces have been experiencing specific weather conditions in the past month."
Flood Management and Opportunities from El Niño
Janbaz further emphasized the importance of adaptive management in light of El Niño as a forthcoming event. He stated: "We must assume scenarios based on the forecasts of the Meteorological Organization and manage in a way that is appropriate to the conditions. In this regard, inter-agency cooperation and public information are of special importance."
The Deputy Minister of Energy also highlighted the necessity of continuous monitoring and vigilance regarding the warnings from the Meteorological Organization, stating: "We must assume that a large part of the country will be affected by precipitation systems." He emphasized that El Niño does not mean the end of droughts, asserting: "We must have proper management for future floods and make accurate predictions."
Furthermore, Davood Kamgar, CEO of Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company, identified climate change as a significant factor affecting the future of the country's water resources and emphasized the need for appropriate planning to adapt to this phenomenon. He also announced the development of forecasting systems and cooperation with the Meteorological Organization, stating: "Research results indicate that in El Niño years, the likelihood of severe floods increases."
