Marc Suárez, the famous Catalan pastry chef, recently drew attention with the unveiling of a 500-kilogram wedding cake. This masterpiece, remarkable for its design and intricate details, is decorated with 33,000 sugar petals and looks more like a work of art than a wedding cake.

Creating a cake weighing half a ton

This wedding cake, made to order for a Saudi family for a royal ceremony, was crafted over four months by Suárez with the help of several of his pastry chef friends and their families. This extensive collaboration was necessary due to the large volume of work and the need to arrange 33,000 petals on the cake. Suárez said, "Family, friends, and acquaintances all pitched in. This order was so large that even with the help of pastry chef friends, we didn't have enough manpower. A lot of collaboration was needed to create this cake, and my friends' parents also came to my aid."

Stunning details of the wedding cake

In total, about 1,800 hours of work went into creating this spectacular cake, which stands 3.5 meters tall and is 1.8 meters wide. The cake was unveiled at the Palais Garnier in Paris for the wedding of a Saudi couple who preferred to remain anonymous. Suárez explained that the young couple "wanted a cake that didn't look like a cake but rather resembled a kind of monument that pays tribute to the event."

Interestingly, Suárez revealed that only about 0.1 percent of this amazing work of art is actual cake, with the rest made from handmade sugar paste and white chocolate. This fact highlights Suárez's creativity and precision in designing and constructing this cake, which appears to be more than just an ordinary dessert.

Marc Suárez's 500-kilogram wedding cake not only showcases his pastry skills but also symbolizes collaboration and solidarity. This work of art, due to its large dimensions and intricate details, could serve as a new model for pastry chefs and artists in the field of cake-making.
