Mango (Mangifera indica), as one of the most popular fruits in the world, not only has a delicious taste but also brings many benefits for human health. In a new study, adults who consumed 100 calories of fresh mango as a snack reported greater satisfaction compared to a group that consumed a 100-calorie low-fat cookie. This study has shown that mango can play an effective role in weight control and blood sugar management.

The impact of mango on satiety and weight management

After 12 weeks, the group that consumed mango maintained their weight, while the cookie group gained weight. These findings suggest that mango may help individuals feel full and thereby assist in maintaining a healthy weight. Additionally, preliminary evidence indicates that mango may have benefits for the brain, gut, and skin.

Lowering blood sugar and improving insulin sensitivity

A separate study from Florida State University also found similar results. Individuals who ate mango daily experienced a reduction in waist-to-hip ratio and, in the end, had less body fat and more lean mass compared to those who did not eat mango. These findings suggest that mango can help improve blood sugar control. Mango consumption was associated with a better insulin response and lower blood sugar compared to common snack alternatives.

Research shows that eating mango increases the level of adiponectin, a protein associated with reduced inflammation and better insulin sensitivity. Britt Burton-Freeman, director of the Nutrition Research Center at Illinois Institute of Technology, points out that growing research highlights the promising role of mango in supporting metabolic health.

Mango as a valuable addition to the diet

Burton-Freeman states, "The findings suggest that mango can be a valuable addition to a balanced diet and help regulate blood sugar and support weight management—benefits that many people may not always associate with fruit."

Mango contains over 20 vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including fiber and phytochemicals like mangiferin. This fruit, with its delightful flavor and unique properties, can be considered a suitable option for healthy snacks.

Ultimately, based on the research conducted, mango is not only a delicious fruit but also a rich source of nutrients that can help improve metabolic health and control weight. These findings could provide a new way for individuals looking to maintain their health and control blood sugar.
