Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the eighth session of the Global Security Forum in Doha, referred to the concerning current situation in the Middle East, particularly in the Gaza Strip. He criticized the leaders of the Zionist regime, stating that instead of seeking peace and stability, they only talk about war and conflict.

Efforts to Achieve Peace

Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, as mediating countries, are working with the United States to advance the peace process in the region. However, according to him, the Israeli side is unwilling to engage in this process, leading to an escalation of the crisis and insecurity in the region.

Lack of a Peace Partner and Danger for Israeli Residents

He expressed regret over the absence of a peace partner in Israel, asserting that this situation cannot bring a sense of security to Israeli residents. Al-Ansari also emphasized the difficulty of advancing negotiations by posing the question of how Palestinians can be asked to lay down their arms while the Israeli side does not fulfill its commitments.

These remarks come as on Tuesday, due to artillery attacks and gunfire from the Zionist regime's forces on the Gaza Strip, five Palestinians, including two children and a couple, were martyred and nine others were injured. The Zionist regime launched a war against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, aimed at destroying the Hamas movement and returning captured Israelis, but has failed to achieve these goals and is now resorting to an agreement for prisoner exchange with Hamas.

Amid the crisis, the Hamas movement has announced that it has reached an agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and exchange prisoners, while the Israeli army has also reported the implementation of a ceasefire in the region. However, it continues to obstruct its execution.

The Zionist regime's aggression against the Gaza Strip, with U.S. support, has resulted in the massacre of over 74,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 175,000 others. Additionally, it has caused widespread destruction, annihilating 90% of the civilian infrastructure in the area. The United Nations has estimated the cost of rebuilding these damages at approximately $70 billion.
