Mahiya Dehghani, a beloved actress of cinema and television, has been introduced as a judge for the feature film section of the 19th International Resistance Film Festival. Emphasizing that Iranians have never been the initiators of war throughout history, she considered patriotism and defense of the homeland as the most important themes of resistance cinema.
The Centrality of Love for the Homeland in Resistance Cinema
Mahiya Dehghani discussed the place of patriotism in works related to the Sacred Defense and resistance, stating: "In all stories related to the Sacred Defense and resistance, love for the homeland is central. No matter what class you belong to, your courage, wisdom, and ideology must be directed towards preserving the homeland. Ultimately, what is more valuable in this world than human life, for which individuals are willing to sacrifice and give up their dearest possessions? This is a very important issue and deserves discussion and dialogue."

She continued that humans sometimes take a strange path in their spiritual transformation. Dehghani said: "There have been individuals who led very simple and ordinary lives but entered a path where they ultimately became willing to sacrifice their lives. Where does this wisdom and perspective come from? Such an image can turn into a beautiful work of art. Resistance, perseverance, and not surrendering are three concepts that should be artistically framed to facilitate the production of cinematic works."
Potential of Resistance Cinema for Global Connection
Dehghani pointed to the potential of resistance cinema for connecting with global audiences and stated: "Resistance cinema can be combined with various cinematic genres and carry a global message. For centuries, humans have fought over various issues, but the important question is on what basis the fighting occurs. The difference between being imposed a war and defending oneself is very significant."
She also referred to the new generation that has just begun its life journey and faces all the glitz and glamour of the world, saying: "This generation must become familiar with these concepts and know that Iran is a country with an ancient civilization that no one can trample upon." Dehghani considered art as one of the effective tools in advancing the resistance movement and added: "Art can act like a driving force or the locomotive of a train, propelling the resistance movement and showing that for a true Iranian, resistance and defense of the homeland have always been important. As an artist, I have always been concerned about making an impact and it has been important for me that my work is not without substance."
In conclusion, she highlighted the importance of the international dimension of the 19th Resistance Film Festival, noting: "In my opinion, in this edition of the festival, the narrative of Iranian hospitality should be more pronounced. Everyone knows that Iranians are hospitable people. We have never initiated a war and have always defended ourselves. Humanism and benevolence have also been concepts we have promoted. This friendly outlook, alongside love and attachment to the homeland, can convey a clear message to the world."
The 19th International Resistance Film Festival will be held from November 7 to 19 under the management of Jalal Ghafari at the Mellat Cinema Complex.
