Legumes, avocado, potatoes, bananas, and kiwi are some potassium-rich foods that can help control blood pressure. Potassium helps reduce the negative effects of sodium by aiding its excretion through urine and relaxing the walls of blood vessels, thereby contributing to the maintenance of healthy blood pressure.

Legumes; A Treasure for the Heart

According to the results of a comprehensive analysis, increasing daily consumption of cooked legumes is associated with a reduced risk of high blood pressure. For every unit increase in consumption, the risk of this condition decreases by 12 percent. Legumes include various beans, lentils, and peas, which are typically not consumed in sufficient amounts in many people's diets. Even adding a small amount of legumes to breakfast can help provide the necessary nutrients for the body.

Avocado and Potatoes; Valuable Fruits and Vegetables

Avocado is a fruit with potential heart health benefits, containing about 487.5 mg of potassium per 100 grams. Studies have shown that regular consumption of avocado can help reduce systolic blood pressure, especially in individuals with higher blood pressure. Additionally, potatoes are a good source of potassium; a medium potato contains approximately 950 mg of potassium. The method of preparing potatoes is important, and baking them instead of frying can help maintain heart and vascular health.

Other sources of potassium include bananas, with a medium banana containing about 422 mg of potassium. Kiwi also provides approximately 430 mg of potassium with two small fruits, and research indicates that consuming kiwi may help lower blood pressure in individuals whose blood pressure is above the optimal level.

Excessive dietary sodium can increase blood pressure, and potassium helps mitigate its effects. Therefore, increasing potassium intake through diet can help reduce blood pressure. The American Heart Association recommends a daily intake of 3,500 to 5,000 mg of potassium to support blood pressure health.

However, individuals with kidney disease or those taking medications that increase blood potassium levels should consult their doctor about the appropriate amount of potassium intake.
