The famous axe used by Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in the film 'The Shining' is set to be sold at an auction in London soon. This axe is depicted in one of the film's most iconic scenes, where Jack attempts to break down the locked door where his wife Wendy (played by Shelley Duvall) is hiding. Additionally, this weapon is used in another scene for the murder of the character Dick Hallorann (played by Scatman Crothers).
Auction of Stanley Kubrick's Works
Now, this axe is one of hundreds of items that will be sold in the first auction of Stanley Kubrick's personal archive, the influential director of 'The Shining'. The estimated price for this axe is between £30,000 and £50,000. Kubrick passed away in 1999, and this auction represents a unique opportunity for cinema enthusiasts and film history buffs.

Other Interesting Auction Items
In this auction, in addition to Jack Torrance's axe, several other items from 'The Shining' will also be sold. Among them are two sky-blue dresses worn by the film's twins, Alexa and Alexi Grady. These dresses are featured in one of the film's most memorable scenes when Danny (Torrance's son) is riding his tricycle and invites the twins to play. Although Danny's tricycle will not be offered in this auction, four clapperboards from Kubrick's works will be included among the auction items.
The auction will take place at Bonhams' London branch on February 3. Prior to that, a public exhibition of the items will begin next week at the New York branch and will then move to Los Angeles, Paris, and finally London. The most expensive piece of this auction is expected to be the cosmic fetus model from '2001: A Space Odyssey', which may sell for up to £800,000.
Claire Tole-Muir, head of the popular culture department at Bonhams, commented on the value of this piece: "This final and mysterious image is one of the most influential science fiction films in cinema history. This piece symbolizes evolution, new beginnings, innocence, and ambiguity." She added that this auction gives fans, collectors, and historians the chance to own a part of this amazing collection.
Tole-Muir also mentioned her interest in Kubrick's screenplays, saying: "His screenplays are truly unique and provide an exciting insight into Stanley's creative journey while making some of his most famous films, including 'The Shining' and '2001: A Space Odyssey'."
