Isa Bozorgzadeh, spokesperson for the water industry, announced the worrying state of Tehran's dams at a press conference, stating that the capacity of these dams has decreased to 20 percent. Meanwhile, the average capacity of the country's dams is 44 percent. This statistic indicates a water crisis in the capital and an urgent need for water consumption management.

Condition of various dams in Tehran

Bozorgzadeh pointed out the different conditions of Tehran's dams, stating that the Lar dam is only 3 percent full, the Latiyan dam is 11 percent full, the Amir Kabir dam is 70 percent full, and the Taleqan dam is 39 percent full. These figures show that while some dams are in good condition, many others are facing serious challenges.

Need for water consumption management

Bozorgzadeh also mentioned that the Doosti dam is not in good condition and urged the people of Tehran, Karaj, Mashhad, and Arak to pay more attention to water consumption management. He emphasized that given the dry and very dry climate of the country, it is essential for people to act more responsibly regarding water consumption.

This spokesperson referred to the low rainfall in the country, stating that the average annual precipitation in Iran is only 230 millimeters, while this figure globally exceeds 700 to 750 millimeters. This decrease in rainfall indicates greater challenges that the country faces in terms of water supply.

Future outlook

Bozorgzadeh emphasized that Iranians have historically paid attention to water consumption management and urged people to continue to uphold this culture and be more considerate in their water usage. He said: "We must measure water consumption against the climatic realities of our country." This highlights the necessity of attention to groundwater resources and emergency projects underway to secure drinking water in the country.

Finally, Bozorgzadeh urged people to heed recommendations regarding water consumption management. This request is particularly important for residents of Tehran, Karaj, and Mashhad due to the specific conditions of the dams and water resources in these areas.
