Iran's presence at the 48th World Skills Competition is another opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the country's elites in technological fields. Abdolhasan Bahrami, head of the Knowledge-Based Economy Development Headquarters of the Scientific Vice-Presidency, announced that Iran will send 22 selected skilled elites to this competition in Shanghai, China, across 20 specialized fields.

Competition in New Fields

Bahrami stated that 10 members of the Iranian national skills caravan will compete in 8 fields related to new technologies, including robotics, cloud computing, cybersecurity, network systems management, mobile software development, software development, graphic design, and web technologies. He emphasized that this participation reflects a change in the concept of skill training and the job market's need for new skills.

Linking New Skills with Knowledge-Based Economy

Bahrami also stressed the importance of linking new skills with the knowledge-based economy chain and said: "Skill training should not be limited to a competition or certification. It should lead to the creation of economic value and the development of technology-based businesses." He pointed out that new skills must be connected to the job market and the real needs of the industry to demonstrate their economic impact.

This official highlighted the collaboration between the Scientific Vice-Presidency, the National Elite Foundation, and the Technical and Vocational Education Organization as a solution for creating effective connections between educational institutions and the job market. He also referred to the importance of changing the educational approach and stated that we should move from a system that only considers academic degrees as a measure of assessment to a system that also takes problem-solving abilities and technology skills into account.

Bahrami noted that the goal is for students to become the builders of the country's future technology, adding: "Achieving this goal requires that practical skills be integrated into various stages of education. Additionally, skilled youth should be able to act as entrepreneurs and creators of new technologies."

The 48th World Skills Competition will be held from September 22 to 27, 2026, in Shanghai, China, and it is expected that the Iranian caravan will showcase worthy achievements at this prestigious event.
