Iran's international flight network remains active despite recent restrictions, with flights to Turkey, China, and Malaysia still operational. While some routes, such as those to Iraq, Georgia, and the UAE, have been suspended, about 75% of the 19 registered international destinations at Imam Khomeini Airport are still in operation.

Active Routes and Their Importance

An examination of the latest status of flight networks shows that routes to East and Southeast Asia, particularly Turkey, China, and Malaysia, continue to form a significant part of Iran's air connectivity. Among the active destinations, Turkey is recognized as a key point, serving not only as a final destination for many travelers but also as a transit route to European countries.

Flights from Tehran to Istanbul, operated by several Iranian airlines, are among those that have been scheduled in recent days. Additionally, direct flights to China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, are also on the list of active flights. These routes are particularly important for tourism, business, and student travel.

Suspension of Flights to Certain Destinations

In contrast, the suspension of flights from Iran to Iraq, Georgia, the UAE, Azerbaijan, and Oman means the loss of significant options for travelers. Notably, the Najaf and Baghdad routes are no longer receiving Iranian flights following new decisions. Furthermore, the suspension of flights to the UAE, a major transit destination, has raised new concerns for travelers.

Meanwhile, Malaysia remains in Iran's active flight network with direct flights from Tehran to Kuala Lumpur operated by Iran Airtour. This route is of great importance for travelers intending to visit Southeast Asia and can serve as a connecting point to other countries in the region.

Statistics from Imam Khomeini Airport's performance during the first 29 days of September 2023 indicate that a total of 3,109 incoming and outgoing flights have been conducted, transporting 445,113 passengers on international routes. Of these, 212,258 were incoming passengers and 232,855 were outgoing passengers. These figures clearly demonstrate that Iran's international flight network continues to cover a significant volume of passenger and cargo movement despite recent changes.
