Seyed Reza Hosseini, the head of the Young Researchers Club, announced the remarkable achievements of Iranian students in global and international scientific Olympiads at a press conference this morning, Wednesday, October 22. He noted that with the closure of a significant portion of the global scientific Olympiad competitions for 2026, he declared: "This year we won 18 gold medals, which is unparalleled in the history of the country's scientific Olympiad activities."
Success Against Challenges
Hosseini continued: "Last year, Iran's total gold medals in global and international scientific Olympiads were 11, while this year, despite participating in fewer competitions, the number of gold medals reached 18." This success reflects the scientific capabilities of the researchers and the efforts of the scientific committees.

The head of the Young Researchers Club also referred to the support provided to medalists last year and said: "The martyr leader mentioned these achievements in a televised message on October 1, considering them a symbol of the national capabilities of the Iranian nation."
Achievements in Wartime Conditions
Hosseini emphasized that these successes were achieved under wartime conditions, stating: "Many educational classes could not be held in person due to the war conditions, and these limitations affected students' access to scientific resources. Nevertheless, they saw themselves in the field of science and worked hard for their country."
Hosseini added: "This year, in the International Earth Sciences Olympiad, Iran's representative in the presentation section managed to achieve first place, and this success was achieved by one of the country's female researchers." He emphasized that Iran's all-girls team in these competitions attracted the attention of other countries and demonstrated the active presence of girls in scientific fields.
Gold Medals in Artificial Intelligence and Physics
The head of the Young Researchers Club also mentioned the successes of Iranian researchers in the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, stating: "This year, for the first time, we succeeded in winning a gold medal in this Olympiad. This achievement came at a time when many countries faced similar challenges."
In the International Physics Olympiad, Iran's team achieved its best result in the last 20 years, winning three gold medals and two silver medals out of a total of five medals. Hosseini noted that these successes reflect the efforts and capabilities of Iranian researchers.
Unprecedented Achievements in Astronomy and Astrophysics
The Iranian national team in Astronomy and Astrophysics also managed to win five gold medals and rank first in the world. Hosseini said: "For the third consecutive year, we achieved the first rank in the world in terms of medals in this Olympiad, and these successes are particularly remarkable in both theoretical and practical sections."
He also referred to the individual results of these competitions, stating: "All individual awards in this round were awarded to representatives of Iran, and none of the awards went to other countries." These successes occurred while, according to Hosseini, some media outlets are trying to portray a negative image of Iran.
Overall, Hosseini considered these achievements a sign of the scientific capabilities and high potential of Iranian youth and emphasized the importance of going beyond medal-winning and positively impacting society.
