Mohammad Ali Dehghan Dehnoei, head of the Trade Development Organization, today announced new advancements in Iran-Russia trade during a press conference on National Export Day. He stated that in recent negotiations with the Eurasian Economic Union, especially with Russia, the removal of non-tariff barriers and the facilitation of currency transfers have been prioritized. These negotiations have enabled commercial relations between the two countries to be realized using their national currencies.
Existing Challenges in Trade
Despite the signing of monetary agreements and repeated accords with Iran's trade partners for settling transactions in rials and the currency of the destination country, exchanges between the two countries face serious challenges. Severe trade balance imbalances, the lack of a sustainable mechanism to cover exchange rate fluctuations, and the absence of a joint settlement institution are issues that have made it difficult for Iranian exporters to convert their claims.

Sanction Considerations and Financial Cooperation
Dehghan Dehnoei further emphasized that the main challenge arises from sanction considerations and the caution of Russian financial institutions in operational collaborations. These precautions, while making the financial dealings with Russia significantly more favorable than with other trade partners, have still raised concerns among Iranian traders. However, he noted that these concerns are not considered a deterrent barrier to trade development.
In fact, despite the difficulties, it seems that commercial cooperation between Iran and Russia is growing, and efforts to facilitate this cooperation continue. It is expected that with the reduction of barriers and improvement of financial conditions, trade between the two countries will reach a new level of collaboration and interaction.
Overall, there appears to be a strong will to expand economic relations between Iran and Russia, and despite the challenges, both countries are striving to capitalize on existing opportunities and move towards sustainable and profitable cooperation.
