The Imam Khomeini Highway project, as one of the important and significant urban projects, has been inaugurated with the aim of facilitating traffic and improving access in western Tehran. This project, which reached its final stage with the clearance of 12.6 trillion tomans in obstacles and 1.3 trillion tomans in execution costs, now provides a new route towards Fath Square and other highways.

Project Details and New Routes

The new route starts from Imam Khomeini Street and connects to the former Jey military base, continuing to the Fath Highway. In this project, 2,550 meters of route have been opened, of which 550 meters is in the form of a tunnel. Tehran's mayor, Alireza Zakani, announced at the inauguration ceremony that plans are underway to complete the western branch of the Imam Khomeini Highway in the next month and a half, adding: "Good progress has been made in this project that will help facilitate access."

Challenges and Obstacles of the Project

The implementation of this project faced multiple challenges. Property obstacles included parts of the western and eastern Jey military base and several warehouses of the Ministry of Education, which were removed through continuous efforts. Additionally, to reduce traffic problems in this area, new designs for fine-grained fabrics have been considered. These actions will also help in the renovation of surrounding areas.

Mehdi Chamran, the head of the Islamic Council of Tehran, emphasized the importance of this project, stating: "This project is not only significant for the city council but is also considered a vital action towards improving the quality of life for Tehran's citizens." He also referred to future plans for expanding the route towards Shahid Kazemi Bridge.

Social and Economic Achievements

This project, in addition to improving traffic, will also enhance the quality of life for residents of these areas. By connecting the Imam Khomeini Highway to the Azadegan Highway and ultimately to the Tehran-Saveh Freeway, access to Imam Khomeini Airport and other parts of the city will be facilitated. This is especially a great advantage for residents of the northernmost parts of Tehran, who will have easier access to commercial and service centers.

Brigadier General Abdolreza Abed, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, also emphasized the round-the-clock efforts of the teams to implement this project, stating: "In wartime conditions, there were no breaks in the project execution process, and with the determination of all colleagues, this project has been completed."
