Ali-Asghar Kamali-Zadeh, the CEO of the Tehran Municipality Renovation Organization, announced the start of the renovation plan in 200 neighborhoods of Tehran. This plan is aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and providing housing in targeted neighborhoods, focusing on dilapidated and inefficient areas.

Targeting 46,000 Properties

Kamali-Zadeh stated that preliminary actions for this plan are beginning in 20 regions of Tehran, saying: "About 46,000 properties in neighborhoods that have three characteristics of impermeability, instability, and small size have been targeted." He added that various projects in the field of urban regeneration and housing are underway, and some plans will enter the operational phase this year.

Renovation as a Social Task

The CEO of the Tehran Municipality Renovation Organization emphasized that the renovation of dilapidated areas is not merely an engineering action. He clarified: "Renovation is, before anything else, a social task, and to advance it, social capital and the cooperation of residents with renovation plans must first be established."

Kamali-Zadeh further referred to the urban regeneration project in the Islamabad area, saying: "In this area, about 117 hectares are being renovated as part of an urban regeneration project, and the goal is to create a sustainable area with green spaces and earthquake-resistant buildings by implementing the project, along with providing housing and urban services."

He also highlighted the importance of preserving the historical and social identity of neighborhoods, stating: "In dilapidated areas, valuable houses and structures with historical and identity significance are identified and preserved. The approach of urban management is not to erase the issue and demolish all buildings, but rather renovation should accompany the preservation of valuable elements of neighborhoods."

In response to criticisms regarding the lack of parks and cultural centers in some renovated areas, the CEO of the Tehran Municipality Renovation Organization said: "The organization's plans are not limited to the construction of residential units, and the provision of seven essential services is also on the agenda."

Finally, Kamali-Zadeh mentioned the memorandum of understanding between the Tehran Municipality and the Ministry of Education, stating: "The construction of about 80 schools in Tehran is on the agenda, a significant portion of which will be built in dilapidated areas."
