Dr. Mehdi Pir-Salehi, head of the Food and Drug Organization, addressed the challenges of drug supply in wartime and under sanctions during a press conference and emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic production. According to him, supporting domestic producers is essential for achieving sustainable drug supply in the country.
Domestic production in difficult conditions
Dr. Pir-Salehi noted that domestic producers are operating at full capacity and, despite the damages caused by the war, are producing around the clock. These efforts are somewhat indicative of national determination and will in the face of challenges.

Supply of raw materials under sanctions
The head of the Food and Drug Organization also referred to the challenges of supplying the raw materials needed for the pharmaceutical industry and said: "We have made every effort to quickly supply the raw materials in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Roads, and other relevant agencies."
He also mentioned changes in transportation routes, stating that some raw materials are being supplied via rail and land routes due to the current conditions. These changes have significantly increased the cost and time of transporting raw materials. In some cases, the cost of transporting raw materials has increased between 6 to more than 10 times, and the transportation time has also lengthened.
Priorities in the current situation
Dr. Pir-Salehi emphasized that the main priority of the Food and Drug Organization in the current situation is the supply of raw materials and the continuity of production. He said: "Despite the increase in costs and time, we are trying to reduce these as much as possible, but part of this increase in cost and time is due to the sanctions that we have to accept."
Ultimately, the head of the Food and Drug Organization expressed hope that with the coordination and efforts of producers, drug shortages in the country would be minimized. This hope reflects the determination and will of officials to confront challenges and ensure the health of the community.
