Gholamreza Shangi, head of the Urban Services and Environment Department of Tehran Municipality, addressed the safety status of commercial centers in Tehran during the end-of-term drill for level B volunteer firefighters held today, Wednesday, October 29, 1405.

70,000 Volunteers Ready for Assistance

Ghodratollah Mohammadi, CEO of Tehran Fire Department and Safety Services, told reporters about the increase in incidents in Tehran and other parts of the country, announcing the presence of about 70,000 volunteers who have registered to assist in rescue operations. He stated that the fire department intends to add 2,000 to 3,000 people to this number annually and will continue to provide necessary training to enhance the skills of these volunteers.

Mohammadi also highlighted the importance of training volunteers in reducing incidents, stating: "With the help of these volunteers, we have been able to train 1.3 million citizens of Tehran, which has resulted in approximately an 8% reduction in fires in Tehran."

Legal Action on 129 Unsafe Buildings

The CEO of the Fire Department further mentioned the status of 129 unsafe buildings in Tehran, stating: "Some of these buildings are commercial centers and malls, and their cases have been referred to the judicial authorities." He emphasized that officials and owners of these centers must be sensitive to the safety of their buildings, and if issues are not resolved, there is a possibility of their closure.

Mohammadi also referred to the status of Saraye Azadi, stating that safety violations in this complex could have led to dangerous incidents, but actions taken have prevented the continuation of this trend. He noted: "Citizens who go to commercial centers for their needs should not be put at risk due to non-compliance with safety requirements."

Closure of High-Risk Commercial Centers in the Future

The CEO of the Fire Department emphasized the necessity of addressing unsafe buildings, stating: "If the safety deficiencies of these centers are not resolved, the Fire Department will seriously move towards closing high-risk commercial centers next year."

In conclusion, Mohammadi stressed the need for cooperation between owners and tenants of commercial centers to ensure safety, stating: "The priority of the organization is to prevent incidents and protect the health of citizens."
