The El Niño rains that will soon affect the country promise good rainfall in the autumn and early winter in Iran. Omid Mohtaram, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Organization, provided explanations to the media about the impact of the El Niño phenomenon on rainfall in the country.
The El Niño Phenomenon and Its Impact on Iran's Climate
Mohtaram stated that this phenomenon occurs during the warm temperature fluctuations in the Pacific Ocean near the equator. These fluctuations can have profound effects on the climates of countries, especially in Iran where rainfall increases during this period. He also mentioned that temperature and pressure changes in the Pacific can indirectly affect our country's climate.
Mohtaram emphasized that these effects are not always positive and one cannot speak with certainty about them, but evidence and predictive models indicate that there is a likelihood of increased rainfall in autumn and early winter.
Signs of Increased Rainfall and Affected Areas
The spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Organization pointed to signs of potential increased rainfall in Iran. According to him, the reduction of monsoon rains in Southeast Asian countries and rising temperatures in summer are among the indicators that signal the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon in our country.
Mohtaram added: “It is predicted that we will have good rainfall from early autumn to mid-autumn and early winter. Of course, there is no complete certainty in seasonal forecasts, but trends and patterns indicate that the likelihood of more rainfall in these seasons has increased.”
He also noted that winter and autumn rains will be more organized, which could help prevent sudden flooding.
Mohtaram pointed out that in the Zagros and Southern Alborz regions, rainfall will be greater, and special plans have been made for these areas. This rainfall could help improve the climatic and agricultural conditions in these regions.
Overall, based on the new forecasts, people and farmers are looking forward to good and beneficial rains that can help improve living conditions and various economic sectors in the country.
