The decline of the US dollar in today's trading, Wednesday, has occurred in global markets amid concerns over the results of this country's midterm elections. Investors are clearly preparing for the possibility of a Democratic victory and greater control of Congress by this party.

Currency Market Analysis

On this day, the euro rose by 0.2% to reach 1.1212 dollars, and the Japanese yen also saw a significant increase to 158.30 yen against each dollar. The dollar index, which measures the value of this currency against a basket of six major currencies, decreased by 0.2% to 101.7 units. These changes indicate investors' inclination to move towards safer assets.

Carol Kong, a currency strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), stated that given the Democrats' lead in the polls, it is expected that this party will take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. These changes could lead to a further decline in the dollar, as a Democratic victory is likely to impact government spending.

Concerns Over Political Consequences

Investors are also closely monitoring the potential consequences of a Republican defeat in Congress on US foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran. Kong warned that if Donald Trump resumes military attacks against Iran due to losing control of Congress, there is a possibility of rising oil prices. This development could strengthen the dollar and impact global markets.

Oil prices showed little change in trading on Wednesday, with each barrel of oil reaching about 103.85 dollars. The energy market continues to pay attention to developments in the Middle East war negotiations and the risk of oil supply disruptions. In other markets, the British pound strengthened against the dollar as traders awaited the Bank of England's decision on interest rates.

The Chinese yuan also stabilized somewhat against the dollar following the central bank's decision to increase the reserve ratio for financial institutions. These developments indicate that global markets are heavily influenced by domestic and foreign political and economic factors, and any changes could have complex consequences for the global economy.
