Cristiano Ronaldo, the legend of Portuguese football, has officially retired from his national team. This 41-year-old forward, recognized as one of the best players in the world since 2003, has set world records by scoring 146 goals in 234 international matches.

The Journey Comes to an End

Ronaldo left the Portugal national team camp in September after being informed that he would not be in the starting lineup for the UEFA Nations League match against Denmark. He announced his retirement to his fans by posting a video on his Instagram page, stating: "People of Portugal, it is time for me to pass the number 7 jersey of our national team to the next generation."

He added: "I never felt that this jersey belonged solely to me, but for 23 years I had the honor and responsibility to wear it, defend it, and carry it in stadiums around the world." Ronaldo noted that this decision was not easy and that "some decisions are not made solely with reason, but come from the heart."

Paying Tribute to a Legend

The Portuguese Football Federation has also stated that it will not allow Ronaldo's retirement to take place without a proper tribute to him. In a statement, the federation said: "Our firm and serious request is to play an active role in organizing, planning, and participating in a ceremony that should always be a fitting tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo's glorious football career; a ceremony where fans and the people of Portugal can once again express their gratitude to a player who has done so much for our country and pay tribute to his achievements."

This retirement comes at a time when Lionel Messi, Ronaldo's great rival, also announced his retirement from international matches in October. Both players, regarded as two of the greatest stars in football history, have had a profound impact on the sport and have many fans around the world.

Tomorrow, the list of players called up to the Portugal national team for the November UEFA Nations League matches will be announced. Portugal will host Denmark at home and will face Wales in an away match.
