Currency sales with a national ID for individuals over 18 years old continue. The currency supply plan for up to 10,000 dollars started on October 3rd of this year to increase the supply of currency notes and manage market fluctuations. This plan is designed within the framework of the Central Bank's program to supply up to two billion dollars in currency notes to the foreign exchange market.
New Currency Program of the Central Bank
In the first phase of this program, one billion dollars was supplied through selected branches of banks and banking exchange offices across the country. Four banks, Mellat, Tejarat, Saderat, and Samaneh participated in this plan, and Bank Melli joined these banks on October 4th. Thus, five banks—Mellat, Melli, Tejarat, Saderat, and Samaneh—provided the opportunity for eligible applicants to purchase currency, and Iranian individuals over 18 years old can buy up to 10,000 dollars by presenting their national ID.

Providing Currency for Essential Needs
Before the implementation of this plan, the provision of currency notes for the essential needs of Iranian individuals over 18 years old was only done under the category known as code 56, with an annual limit of one thousand euros or its equivalent in other currencies; an amount that, based on the exchange rate, was approximately equivalent to 1,100 dollars. However, the new 10,000 dollar supply is part of the Central Bank's special program to increase the supply of currency notes and manage the market. This action was implemented at a time when the Central Bank had announced its plan for a broader currency supply and responding to existing demand through official channels.
Recently, there have been reports about the suspension of currency sales with a national ID. However, according to the Central Bank's announcement, this news has not been confirmed, and the currency supply within the announced program continues. Additionally, Bank Melli Iran, in a statement published on October 6th, announced the continuation of dollar note sales with a national ID for eligible individuals over 18 years old up to 10,000 dollars and also announced the possibility of submitting non-in-person currency purchase requests through the messaging app 'Baleh'.
Therefore, the 10,000 dollar supply plan with a national ID is part of the Central Bank's program to increase the supply of currency notes and manage fluctuations in the foreign exchange market.
