The construction of 80 new sports complexes and the equipping of 500 sports bases in schools is part of the Tehran Municipality Sports Organization's programs for the development of public and family-oriented sports. Reza Bahadaran, the planning manager of this organization, elaborated on the actions and future programs in his recent meeting.

Citizen-Centric Approach and Sports Development

According to Bahadaran, the approach of the Sports Organization is based on citizen-centricity, smart service delivery, and utilizing specialized forces. These programs are designed in line with overarching documents and the policies of the Tehran Municipality. Currently, 157 sports complexes in Tehran provide services to citizens, including 18 specialized women's complexes and 9 Zurkhaneh.

In the field of citizen sports, there are also 1,031 active stations, with 657 stations dedicated to women and 374 stations for men. These stations offer sports services in 42 disciplines for women and 31 disciplines for men, and the fees are approximately 40% lower than the rates of the General Directorate of Sports and Youth.

Transformation in Sports Infrastructure

The planning manager of the Sports Organization announced the return of 69 inactive complexes to operational status and the renovation of 110 sports complexes over 20 years old. Additionally, 80 new sports complexes have been opened during this period, and 500 sports bases in schools across the country have been equipped. Bahadaran highlighted the role of mosques and schools as sports centers and neighborhood bases, and also reported the replacement and renovation of 10 large artificial turf fields and 172 artificial turf fields throughout the city.

He also mentioned the success of the "City Champion" event, stating that this event has been held in 4 editions so far, with more than 4 million 700 thousand participants. Furthermore, in this edition, competitions were held in public spaces, parks, and even metro stations, demonstrating the effort to promote sports among the general public.

Support for Specific Groups and Development of Traditional Sports

Bahadaran also announced the establishment of 29 sports villages at national and religious festivals, which has contributed to increased social participation. The sports programs of the Tehran Municipality include various age groups, from children under 2 years to seniors aged 99, with a total of 1,510 sports and recreational programs held throughout the city.

Regarding the development of traditional and heroic sports, he stated that the largest gatherings of ancient athletes, with the participation of 200 masters and 1,150 ancient athletes, were held in Region 18 and recorded as a national record. Additionally, last year, 40 Zurkhaneh were equipped with specialized equipment and tools for traditional sports.

In conclusion, Bahadaran emphasized the empowerment of champions and veteran athletes, as well as support for competitive sports, and announced that sports programs for affected families are being held free of charge.
