The deposit of compensation into the accounts of 632 butterfly patients (EB) following the court ruling has brought new hope for these patients. On the morning of Tuesday, August 23, 2026, Branch 55 of the International Affairs Court outlined the execution process of the ruling related to the lawsuit of 771 butterfly patients against the U.S. government and ultimately issued a ruling in favor of these patients.
The Court Ruling and Compensation Amount
In this ruling, it was stipulated that an amount of $37 million from the sale of one of the oil shipments of the U.S. that was seized by Iran in 2023 would be paid to the butterfly patients. According to the court's order, the NGO representing the butterfly patients was required to deposit 2 billion tomans into the account of each of the butterfly patients who participated in this case.

The EB House has announced that out of the 771 butterfly patients who granted power of attorney and were on the list of those covered by this case, the compensation has been successfully deposited into the accounts of 632 individuals, and this has been communicated to them via SMS.
Case Follow-ups and Challenges
Currently, 48 cases are still under review due to incomplete documentation, and families must act promptly to complete these deficiencies. Additionally, for 91 deceased patients, actions are being taken under judicial orders to determine the status of these patients.
Families of approximately 350 other patients who were not included in the list of 771 are also pursuing legal action to obtain their rights through legal channels. The follow-up process will continue until the status of all patients is determined, and families hope that these efforts will lead to positive and desirable outcomes.
Butterfly patients, due to their rare disease, have always faced numerous challenges, and this compensation can alleviate some of their financial and medical problems. This legal pursuit and compensation provision demonstrate the community's determination and will to support these vulnerable patients.
