The statistics of fatalities due to carbon monoxide poisoning last year is a serious alarm for all families. Omid Mohtaram, spokesperson for crisis management, announced that the registration of 830 deaths in the year 1404 and also the occurrence of 167 poisoning cases in the last two to three weeks of the current year underscores the necessity of paying attention to safety principles in the use of heating devices.

Shocking Statistics in the Provinces

According to the announced provincial statistics, out of the total 830 fatalities due to gas poisoning in the country, Tehran province has the highest death toll with 127 cases. Following Tehran, Khorasan Razavi with 59 cases, Isfahan with 58 cases, and Fars with 57 cases rank next. Mazandaran province with 53 cases and the provinces of Alborz and West Azerbaijan with 50 and 34 cases respectively are also among the provinces with significant statistics.

In contrast, the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan, each with four fatalities, have the lowest recorded statistics. These figures indicate the necessity of prevention and adherence to safety principles across the country.

Preventive Measures to Save Lives

Mohtaram emphasized the importance of the correct installation of gas appliances, stating: "For connecting these devices, standard high-pressure hoses and sturdy metal clamps should be used. Additionally, the length of the gas hose should not exceed one and a half meters." He also mentioned checking the connection points with soapy water and avoiding the use of matches or lighters to detect gas leaks.

The color of the flame is also one of the important indicators of the proper functioning of the gas appliance. The flame should be blue and uniform, and if a yellow or orange flame is observed, the use of the device should be stopped and checked by a specialist. Inspecting the condition of chimneys before operating heating devices and ensuring the proper discharge of combustion products are other vital points.

Mohtaram also pointed out the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, which include headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, and decreased level of consciousness. If these symptoms are observed, individuals should exit the contaminated environment without endangering their lives and contact emergency services.

He concluded by emphasizing that a significant portion of incidents caused by gas poisoning can be prevented by adhering to safety principles, urging citizens to check the technical status of equipment, gas connections, and ventilation paths before the continuous use of heating devices to prevent tragic incidents and loss of fellow citizens' lives.
