Car imports to Iran have been suspended following a new directive from the Trade Development Organization. According to clause (r) of note 1 of the 2024 budget law, the order registration and editing process for car imports has been halted. This decision has been made to optimize the management of the country's currency resources and will have widespread effects on the car market.

Suspension of Orders and Its Consequences

According to this directive, the Innovation, Smartization, and Security Center of the Trade Development Organization has been tasked with immediately implementing the order to halt the opening and editing of car orders in the Comprehensive Trade System. This decision is particularly significant given that the car market is affected by currency fluctuations. With the suspension of orders, many importers will be deprived of continuing their activities, which could lead to price increases and a shortage of cars in the market.

Exceptional Conditions for Importers

In part of this directive, to prevent the infringement of importers' rights, it is specified that orders that have previously secured currency will be exempt from this halt up to the amount of secured currency (without changes in value, quantity, identifier, and tariff code) and will be able to continue the process. These conditions may help some importers navigate through this crisis, but many market players will still face serious challenges.

This action is in line with the country's macroeconomic plans for better management of currency resources and regulating the car market. Given the current conditions, it is expected that this decision will have significant impacts on pricing and access to cars in the market. At the same time, this action could also help stabilize prices in the long term.

The Car Market in the New Situation

The Iranian car market is constantly changing due to currency fluctuations and political and economic changes. Now, with the suspension of orders, this market will face new challenges. Analysts believe that these changes could lead to a decrease in supply and an increase in demand, ultimately resulting in price growth.

Importers and car buyers should closely monitor the developments in this market. As some orders are still in the process of securing currency, we may soon witness changes in car prices and supply in the market. These changes will not only impact buyers but will also directly affect the country's macroeconomy.
