Brigadier Seyed Abolfazl Mousavi-Pour, head of the Tehran Traffic Police, addressed the issue of fatal accidents in the capital during a speech on the occasion of Police Week, reporting that 305 people died in the first five months of this year due to accidents. He stated that although this figure has decreased compared to last year, it is still concerning, saying: "Even one death is too much for us."

Factors Contributing to Accidents

Brigadier Mousavi-Pour continued by mentioning various factors that lead to accidents, stating: "More than 35% of accidents occur due to lack of attention to the road ahead. This lack of attention is caused by the driver's lack of concentration, which can arise from various reasons such as drowsiness, using a mobile phone, or other thoughts." He added: "Drivers may think about various issues such as debts while driving and become oblivious to the road conditions."

Consequences of Recklessness in Driving

The head of the Tehran Traffic Police emphasized that every accident can have serious consequences for drivers and pedestrians. He said: "Drivers must understand that the vehicle they are operating is an iron giant, and a moment of negligence can lead to disaster." Brigadier Mousavi-Pour also referred to the financial and human costs resulting from accidents, stating: "Every accident incurs damages worth several million tomans and may cause individuals to be unable to work and live for a period of time."

In response to the question of how the accident situation in Tehran compares to other capitals around the world, he said: "In Tehran, relative to the population and the number of vehicles, our accident situation is better than many capitals, but we still cannot tolerate the death of even one person."

Brigadier Mousavi-Pour also pointed out the important role of drivers in reducing accidents, saying: "Human, road, and vehicle are the three main factors in accidents, but the role of humans is the most important. If drivers adhere to their social responsibility, they will prevent accidents from occurring."

He concluded by calling for increased concentration among drivers and a greater sense of social responsibility among them, stating: "We all must feel responsible for one another to prevent the recurrence of these painful incidents."
