Brigadier General Abolfazl Mousavi-Pour, head of Tehran's traffic police, addressed the traffic situation in October during his recent press conference. This month, especially with the start of the school year, is recognized as one of the most vibrant and busiest months of the year, with educational traffic significantly increasing.
Reduction in Traffic Compared to Last Year
Mousavi-Pour pointed out a 4% decrease in traffic in October 1404 compared to the previous year, stating: "This reduction is due to proper planning and cooperation from citizens." He emphasized that continuous communication regarding traffic management can help reduce congestion and create order in traffic. According to him, traffic usually increases by 30% in October.

The Importance of Public Transport
The head of Tehran's traffic police further mentioned that the public transport sector in the capital needs more strengthening. Despite the efforts of Tehran's municipality to improve the situation, there is still a long way to achieve the 52% share of trips made by public transport. Mousavi-Pour announced that in the coming days, the public transport fleet will be increased, which can help reduce traffic.
Mousavi-Pour also referred to the increased use of personal vehicles as one of the factors reducing road capacity, stating: "This issue can lead to congestion on certain routes." He also mentioned the status of school transport and spoke about the importance of organizing these services to reduce traffic problems. According to him, if school transport is properly planned and executed, fewer traffic issues will arise.
The Impact of Schools on Traffic
Mousavi-Pour also pointed out the existence of schools located near highways, saying: "Traffic related to these schools can quickly affect main thoroughfares." He added that the gathering of schools and the traffic of parents dropping off their children at school are other factors contributing to increased traffic congestion. Areas 3, 10, 14, and 6 in Tehran are recognized as the most congested areas at the beginning of October.
The head of Tehran's traffic police also reported the identification of 260 schools located along important roads and highways, stating: "These schools need more care and attention." He also announced that 813 schools have been identified that require safety measures. These measures include road marking, installation of signs, and making sidewalks and bridges accessible.
Mousavi-Pour emphasized that with a student population of 1.4 million in Tehran, parents' concerns about ensuring their children are at school are understandable, but if school transport is properly activated, traffic problems around schools will be reduced.
