Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, in his television interview titled "Safe Tehran," apologized to the citizens and referred to the problems caused by changes on Azadi Street. He emphasized that the aim of these changes is to increase the capacity of public transportation in the city.
Efforts to Improve Public Transportation
Zakani stated in this conversation that the "Line 1 BRT" (Bus Rapid Transit) has limited capacity and explained that this line does not have the necessary capacity from Tehranpars to Azadi Square. Therefore, a decision has been made to upgrade this line. He said: "Considering the intersection of Line 1 BRT with Line 4 of the metro, the issue of trams was also raised, and tests were conducted in this regard, the results of which were positive."
The mayor of Tehran added: "With the arrival of new buses, we can transport more passengers. These buses are designed to be 26 meters long and have three compartments, and they will be equipped with new electric technology." Zakani also mentioned the arrival time of these buses, stating: "Some of these buses are currently being transported to Iran, and we are preparing the necessary infrastructure for their use."
Infrastructure Development and Urban Changes
Zakani explained about the preparation of infrastructure for the arrival of new buses, stating that charging stations for these buses are currently being constructed at the old East terminal and Ekbatan. He emphasized that there will also be camera surveillance on the work process alongside the development of these stations.
Zakani also referred to other changes on the streets, saying: "Citizens will witness changes on Azadi Street, which include adding green spaces to the middle of the street and installing new lights. These changes will generally help improve the urban landscape."
In conclusion, he announced: "The new buses will soon be added to the streets of Tehran, and this new transportation model will be transformed into a metro bus, which is beneficial for the citizens."
