Tehran Municipality has initiated a comprehensive program to establish special motorcycle lanes on certain highways in the capital, aiming to organize motorcycle traffic and develop electric transportation infrastructure. This action is particularly significant given that air pollution and traffic congestion are serious and concerning issues in Tehran.
Development of Electric Infrastructure
Pouria Alimardani, the CEO of the Transportation and Traffic Organization of Tehran Municipality, announced that this organization is seriously developing electric transportation infrastructure. This program includes the establishment of charging stations for electric taxis and buses, as well as support for the use of electric motorcycles. According to Alimardani, Tehran Municipality will first create and develop charging infrastructure for electric taxis and buses, and in the next phase, the establishment of charging stations for private electric vehicles will be on the agenda.

Facilities for Motorcyclists
Alimardani emphasized the importance of creating suitable infrastructure for electric motorcycles and stated: "Tehran Municipality is also pursuing the issue of battery replacement and exchange for motorcycles to reduce motorcyclists' concerns about charging by providing the necessary facilities." He added that cooperation with active organizations in this field to provide facilities for about 20,000 motorcyclists has begun.
These special lanes, which will be established on certain highways, including Mohalati Highway, are designed to separate motorcycle paths from other vehicles. The use of these lanes will be conditional on compliance with regulations including wearing a helmet, passing technical inspections, and ensuring the motorcycle meets legal conditions.
Reducing Air Pollution in Tehran
The CEO of the Transportation and Traffic Organization of Tehran Municipality also referred to this organization's plans to reduce air pollution and said: "Tehran Municipality is pursuing the development of electric transportation as one of the key areas for reducing air pollution and intends to move towards creating a 'clean zone' in the central area of the capital in the long term." Currently, the buses operating in District 12 of Tehran are running on electricity.
These plans and programs can pave the way for broader use of electric motorcycles and other electric vehicles in Tehran, which will not only help reduce air pollution but also improve urban living conditions.
