Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, emphasized his unwillingness to undertake such a trip in a strong reaction to Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, regarding the proposal to travel to Moscow. In response to reporters who asked him about the timing of his trip to Moscow, Zelensky angrily said, “I will go to Russia with a missile.” This remark reflects the intensity of Zelensky's tensions and feelings regarding the current state of the war in Ukraine.

Trump's Proposal and Zelensky's Reaction

Trump's proposal to Zelensky for a trip to Moscow came at a time when both sides are engaged in a deadly war, and international efforts to end this conflict have not yielded results. Zelensky was upset by this proposal and interpreted it as a sign of ignoring the realities on the battlefield. The war between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted nearly five years, has become the deadliest ground war in Europe since World War II.

International Meetings and Current Situation

In recent weeks, Zelensky and Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, each held separate meetings with Trump administration officials in New York. U.S. officials have called for a halt to attacks on the energy infrastructure of both sides, but this request has so far been rejected by Moscow and Kyiv. Zelensky also announced that technical peace negotiations with Russia will likely be held in the UAE, but no exact timing for these negotiations has been determined yet.

In this context, European officials have stated that Trump and his team welcomed European lobbying efforts to support Ukraine ahead of the winter. These officials expressed that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky was generally positive and created hopes for the future. Zelensky had said on September 25 that he hopes the war with Russia will end before winter and has asked the U.S. government to assist Kyiv in this regard.

Despite this, the war in Ukraine continues, and both sides are currently engaged in an escalating cycle of air attacks. Analysts predict that the upcoming winter will be devastating for Ukraine, especially considering the current state of the country's energy infrastructure.
