Zakani, the Mayor of Tehran, announced at the inauguration of the north-to-west route of the Imam Khomeini Highway that the Tehran Municipality has begun new planning by entering the health and energy sectors. He emphasized the importance of the health initiative and said: “After the issue of livelihood, our next initiative is the health initiative, which will be specifically pursued in six neighborhoods of Tehran in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education and the medical universities of Tehran.”

Goals of the Tehran Municipality Health Initiative

The aim of this initiative is to strengthen the public health sector, establish a referral system, family medicine, and create health records for citizens. Zakani noted that these actions are intended to carry out fundamental and serious work in the health and treatment sector. He added: “We will evaluate the experiences gained and then generalize them to the entire city of Tehran.”

Collaboration with Various Institutions

The Mayor of Tehran further stated that this initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and medical universities, aiming to provide better access to health and treatment services for citizens. Zakani announced that this initiative could serve as a model for other areas of Tehran as well.

Since public health is considered one of the main pillars of urban life, the municipality's entry into this field can have positive and widespread effects on the quality of life of citizens. Zakani also announced future plans of the municipality in other areas, stating: “We are looking to create a comprehensive and efficient health system in Tehran where all citizens can easily access health services.”

Zakani also pointed out the importance of energy in urban life and added that the Tehran Municipality is seeking to optimize energy resources and promote renewable energy. He emphasized that these two areas, health and energy, directly impact the welfare and livelihood of citizens and are aimed at improving their quality of life.

Finally, Zakani, referring to the role of citizens in the success of these initiatives, urged them to have more cooperation and participation in implementing these programs. He said: “We need the support and active participation of citizens in these initiatives to achieve our ultimate goal of improving the quality of life and health of the community.”
