Nader Yar Ahmadi, advisor to the Minister of Interior and head of the Foreign Nationals and Immigrants Affairs Center of the Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the seventy-seventh meeting of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, criticized the inadequacy of international support and emphasized the need for fair distribution of responsibilities.

Iran's Hosting of Refugees Under Difficult Conditions

Yar Ahmadi mentioned Iran's hosting of 770,000 refugees and millions of foreign migrants at this meeting, stating that the country is under unilateral sanctions and two extensive military aggressions by the United States and the Zionist regime. Despite these pressures, Iran continues to provide extensive educational, health, and support services to refugees.

Educational and Health Services for Refugees

He referred to the education of over 70,000 students and support for more than 40,000 female heads of households and their children, stating that these services are part of Iran's significant efforts to support refugees. Additionally, Yar Ahmadi reported on providing medical services to over three thousand patients with severe illnesses and basic health insurance coverage for refugees.

Yar Ahmadi, pointing to Iran's high costs in the health and treatment sector for refugees, announced that Iran has spent over three billion dollars in this area. He noted that not even one-tenth of the total operational need of 140 million dollars for the Commission in Iran has been secured, stating that this situation indicates the inadequacy of international support.

Emphasis on Responsibility Sharing

Yar Ahmadi concluded by emphasizing that a reduction in financial resources should not lead to the transfer of responsibilities to host countries and called on the international community to pay attention to fair distribution of responsibilities in support of refugees. The seventy-seventh meeting of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is being held from October 13 to 17, 2026, in Geneva.
