Xiaomi 18 Pro is launched with a unique and practical back display. This display is known as the "Versatile Back Screen" and its purpose is to provide small and specific tools for users. By using artificial intelligence, this phone can identify users' daily needs and provide tools such as an egg cooking timer, water drinking reminders, and a study timer.

A Novel Idea in Phone Design

The use of a back display in phones is not a new idea, but Xiaomi introduced this feature in its previous generation, the Xiaomi 17 Pro. In that phone, the back display could show notifications, the time, animated images, and camera previews. However, in the Xiaomi 18 Pro, the company uses artificial intelligence to generate programs tailored to each user's needs instead of providing a set of pre-defined tools. Thus, the back display can become a customizable space.

Practical and Everyday Features

Xiaomi has showcased examples of the new back display features in its official video that can easily facilitate daily life. Among these features are an egg cooking timer, reminders to drink water, and a Pomodoro timer for managing study time. Additionally, a tool for reviewing English vocabulary and recipe suggestions is also included in this display.

The main question from users is what problem the second display solves? Xiaomi answers that many daily tasks are so small that they do not require fully opening the phone. For example, when cooking, you may only need a timer, or when working, you might want to keep track of your break time. In these cases, a small display that is always accessible can be very efficient.

Moreover, the back display can also be used while taking photos. The user can turn the phone towards themselves and use the main cameras to take pictures while viewing their image on the back display.

Xiaomi has announced that users of the Xiaomi 17 Pro have interacted with app cards on the back display over 4 million times daily. Additionally, more than 3.5 million wallpapers have been added for this screen. This reception has been one of the reasons for the development and improvement of the new generation of this feature.

The main difference with the Xiaomi 18 Pro is that Xiaomi does not want the back of the phone to be just a "second screen"; instead, it wants to turn it into a space that changes according to the user's needs. This idea is also an example of combining two important trends in new phones: more displays and generative artificial intelligence.

Reports about the Xiaomi 18 Pro indicate that this display will also have hardware changes. Some sources have reported the new generation display size to be about 4 inches compared to about 2.1 inches in the previous generation, mentioning thinner bezels and higher brightness. However, Xiaomi has not yet officially announced all the final specifications.

Competition in the flagship phone market is usually focused on areas such as cameras, processors, batteries, and artificial intelligence. However, Xiaomi has focused on an aspect that fewer manufacturers have concentrated on: the back of the phone. If the back display of the Xiaomi 18 Pro can truly simplify daily tasks, it may become one of the most practical parts of the phone.
