Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has reacted to peace proposals that include territorial concessions amid new diplomatic efforts to end the war. Zelensky has publicly welcomed the idea of halting hostilities along the current front line but has firmly rejected the cession of the Donbas region. This firm stance reflects his deep concern and that of the Ukrainian people about the future of their country.
Ukraine's Security Concerns
Zelensky has stated that he has received guarantees from the United States regarding Ukraine's security after the war. However, many Ukrainian citizens doubt the credibility of these promises, recalling the ineffectiveness of previous guarantees. Recent polls show that the majority of Ukrainians (61 percent) oppose ceding Donbas to Russia, and their security concerns remain high.

Peace Plans and Existing Ambiguities
In recent days, details of peace plans proposed to Ukraine have been published in the media. These plans include the possibility of creating a demilitarized zone in Donbas and abandoning Ukraine's efforts to join NATO. Gideon Rachman, a columnist for the Financial Times, has pointed to two possible paths for peace, one of which involves halting hostilities along the current front line and the other ceding parts of Donbas to Russia.
Zelensky clearly stated in an interview with Fox News that Russia cannot demand Ukraine to retreat from its territory and does not consider this request to be "fair." He emphasized that the people of Ukraine cannot leave their homes and land and are calling for an end to the war as soon as possible.
Additionally, some Ukrainian commentators believe that Russia may not accept any ceasefire, and Ukraine will never agree to cede Donbas. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to find a sustainable solution to the war continue vigorously.
