Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, expressed serious concerns in response to the recent agreement between Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. This agreement, which includes the lifting of sanctions against Russia and allowing the export of oil and petroleum products from this country to the United States, has greatly worried Zelensky.
Unfair Agreement and Its Consequences
Zelensky described this agreement as "unfair and dishonest" and regarded it as a birthday gift for Putin on the eve of his birthday anniversary. He added, "This action by Trump seems completely horrifying" and emphasized that this agreement could put the Ukrainian government and many of its European allies in a difficult situation.

An Agreement That Brought Shock
The agreement between Trump and Putin came while Steve Witkoff, Trump's special representative, and Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law and advisor, were in Miami discussing and negotiating with the Ukrainian negotiating team about ending the war in Ukraine. According to Zelensky, this agreement may create a new crisis between the United States and its Western allies.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury also announced that at Trump's direction, a temporary license has been issued allowing Russia to supply its diesel to global markets. This license will be implemented immediately and appears to have been made with the aim of reducing prices for the American people. Trump claims that this action will benefit hardworking farmers and truck drivers.
Economic and Political Consequences
This agreement comes at a time when Trump is grappling with the economic repercussions of his protracted war against Iran on the eve of the midterm congressional elections. Some Republican supporters have expressed concern about the prolongation of the war and its impact on fuel prices, and this agreement may exacerbate these issues.
Meanwhile, Russia, as one of the major diesel exporters, had previously halted its exports due to the destruction of refineries in Ukrainian attacks. Now, with this license issued by the U.S., we are likely to witness an increase in Russian diesel exports to global markets.
In this context, Zelensky and the Ukrainian government are extremely concerned about the consequences of this agreement, which may create a new crisis in international relations. Zelensky is calling for serious attention to the global repercussions of these decisions.
