Ali Nasiri, the head of the Tehran Disaster Prevention and Management Organization, recently announced a two-day course for training 500 rescuers in the necessary skills to face urban floods. This course, titled 'Flood and Survival in Harsh Conditions', is currently being held and aims to enhance the operational readiness of forces to deal with critical flood conditions.
Preparedness Against Flooding Rains
Nasiri, referring to the forecast of heavy flooding rains in Tehran, said: "This year, the likelihood of flooding rains in Tehran is very high, and therefore it is essential that rescue and operational agencies be adequately prepared to face these conditions."

In this training course, which is being held behind the Taleqan Dam Lake in Alborz Province, 500 colleagues from the Disaster Prevention and Management Organization and other rescue, operational, and service agencies are participating. According to Nasiri, a total of about 32 organizations and agencies are involved in this program.
Educational Topics and Practical Exercises
In this course, participants will learn the necessary flood-related skills in 10 educational, operational, field, and skill-based classes. Educational topics include water hygiene, crossing water, managing bodies recovered from water, first aid in floods, working with pumps, and familiarization with insects and vector control.
Nasiri emphasized the operational nature of the training provided and said: "After the educational section, participants will practice their learned skills in a field and operational manner alongside the river, and subsequently, specialized exercises and drills will be conducted."
The main goal of holding this course is to enhance the operational readiness of various agencies and strengthen coordination among them. Nasiri added: "This course helps rescue forces manage their initial issues during crises and subsequently provide education and assistance to the public."
Nasiri also pointed to the necessity of public education during flooding and said: "One of the important goals of this training is for rescue forces to be able to assist people during crises and at least prevent some incorrect and dangerous actions by citizens."
Given climate changes and the likelihood of severe floods in the future, holding such courses can play an effective role in reducing damages and increasing community resilience against natural disasters.
