These purchases are made under a multi-year contract with Lockheed Martin, and the U.S. Army has placed separate orders in this regard. However, the increase in costs and details related to this contract have not been reflected in the Pentagon's daily summary reports.
Production Outlook and Future Plans
The production cycle for PrSM missiles takes about three years, and therefore, the delivery of new missiles will not begin until late 2028. The U.S. Army has requested nearly $1.92 billion for fiscal year 2027 to purchase another 1,134 missiles of this type. Overall, the army intends to acquire 3,986 PrSM missiles from the baseline version.
Reports indicate that the Pentagon has asked the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) to complete the necessary preparations for scenarios related to regional developments. These actions reflect the U.S. Army's special attention to existing global threats and challenges.
Given the current developments and challenges, this purchase could be seen as an important step towards strengthening the military power of the United States on the international stage. Additionally, this contract with Lockheed Martin signifies the continuation of long-term cooperation between the U.S. Army and the defense industry.
