The United States has deployed its third aircraft carrier group to the Middle East. This move comes as President Donald Trump recently mentioned the possibility of increased attacks on Iran following the midterm elections on November 3. This deployment includes a specialized amphibious assault group, clearly indicating the evolving complexities of Trump's war against Iran.
Number of troops and ships in the Middle East
The deployed group includes over 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines, and consists of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and the amphibious ready group USS Makin Island with two amphibious landing ships. According to an American official who requested anonymity, these ships may arrive in the region by the end of October, resulting in the total number of U.S. naval forces in the Middle East exceeding 20,000 sailors and Marines, along with hundreds of aircraft.

Political and military implications
Currently, the USS George HW Bush and USS George Washington are present in the region, and along with the amphibious ready group USS Boxer, they have significantly increased U.S. military influence in the Middle East. The USS Washington, which is usually deployed to the Pacific, has been moved to the Middle East due to the need for increased forces. This troop increase comes as Trump mentioned in an interview with Time magazine the increased likelihood of bombing Iran, stating that after the midterm elections, he may continue attacks vigorously.
Trump has also responded negatively to Iran's recent ceasefire proposal, citing changing conditions and dissatisfaction with Iran's offers. He specifically referred to Iran's plan to "open" the Strait of Hormuz, the main energy transport corridor, stating that this proposal is not good enough.
While war is currently highly unpopular and may affect the Republican Party's chances in the elections, Trump initially responded positively to this point and then clarified that this situation should work in their favor, as "Iran should not have nuclear weapons." He emphasized that 100 percent of people oppose Iran having nuclear capabilities, and this issue could benefit the Republican Party.
