Now, the former deputy of the country's traffic police has addressed an issue that not only highlights existing legal problems but also raises serious questions about gender discrimination in society.
Legal Ambiguity; A Barrier to Issuing Licenses for Women
According to this official, an ambiguity in the clause of Article 20 of the traffic regulations has prevented the police from issuing motorcycle licenses to women. This ambiguity has existed since 2010 and has, in fact, cast a shadow over the fate of women interested in motorcycling for years.
He explains that if the word “men” is simply removed from this clause, the process of issuing licenses for women should easily become possible. This raises many questions about the necessity of revising existing laws and regulations in the country.
Discrimination or Negligence?
While in many countries around the world, women can easily enjoy equal rights in driving and motorcycling, this ambiguity in Iran is considered a serious barrier. This situation illustrates how laws may inadvertently contribute to gender discrimination.
