Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister of Turkey, as part of his consultations with the foreign ministers of countries attending the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting, which took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, focused on bilateral relations and regional and international developments.
Review of Regional Developments
During this meeting, Araghchi elaborated on the latest regional developments and emphasized that the current situation, especially the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, is a direct result of the aggressive actions of the United States and the Zionist regime. He pointed out that these aggressions have continued in various forms since March 9, 2025, and have had negative impacts on regional stability.
Appreciation for Turkey's Efforts
The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to Turkey for its commendable efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region. He stated that the U.S. breach of commitments led to the understanding in Islamabad being violated less than three weeks after its signing, with repercussions spreading throughout the region and the world. Araghchi emphasized the importance of cooperation among regional countries to restore peace and security and announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cooperate in this regard.
Bilateral Dialogue and Expansion of Relations
Subsequently, the foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey exchanged views on bilateral relations and ways to expand interactions in areas of mutual interest. These discussions reflect the willingness of both countries to strengthen cooperative relations and interactions in various fields. Araghchi and Fidan, with a shared understanding of regional challenges, stressed the necessity of enhancing mutual trust and refraining from following interventionist and illegal actions.
This meeting, while taking place within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly, can be seen as a positive step towards improving relations between Iran and Turkey as well as enhancing the security situation in the region. It seems that this active diplomacy could create new opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
