Seyed Hossein Sadat Hosseini, the head of the Telecommunications Devices Union of Tehran, announced the start of customs duty payments for iPhone 18 and 18 Pro Max phones that have been brought into the country as passenger imports. This news may be welcomed by holders of these phones who are looking to legalize their devices.
Registration Conditions and Costs
With the possibility of paying customs duties now available, holders of iPhone 18 phones can enter the customs system and go through the legal process to legalize their devices. Sadat Hosseini further referred to the payments for the new Apple models and estimated the passenger registration cost for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models to be between 180 to over 190 million tomans. This amount must be paid by applicants to receive their activation code.

Impact of Currency Fluctuations on the Phone Market
The head of the Telecommunications Devices Union of Tehran also pointed to the current state of the mobile phone market, stating that this market is affected by currency fluctuations, restrictions on orders, and issues in the import process. Sadat Hosseini expressed hope that with the resumption of order registrations and ongoing follow-ups, the import process would be facilitated, helping to alleviate demand pressure in the market.
In mid-September of this year, the head of the Mobile Importers Association also announced the resumption of mobile phone import order registrations. According to him, the registration of mobile phone imports had been halted since the beginning of the year, and during this time, most of the phones imported into the country were related to orders from the previous year that had been registered and currency secured before the end of Esfand.
Focus on Budget Phones
Asadi, the head of the Mobile Importers Association, emphasized that the focus of new order registrations is on phones priced under 400 dollars, and there is currently no news about the opening of registrations for flagship and luxury phones. Therefore, at this stage, more budget and mid-range phones will enter the order registration cycle. For expensive and flagship phones, including some high-priced Samsung and iPhone models, further decisions and clarifications on their order registration will need to be awaited.
