Saudi Arabia has expressed strong concern in response to the recent decision by the United States not to issue a visa for General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, head of Sudan's Sovereign Council, and threatened to withdraw from the Quad Group for Sudan. This threat clearly indicates Saudi Arabia's anger and dissatisfaction with Washington's diplomatic policies.

New Diplomatic Crisis at the United Nations

Following the Trump administration's refusal to grant a visa to General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, a major diplomatic crisis has arisen at the United Nations. Al-Burhan was supposed to attend the UN General Assembly, and the refusal to issue a visa for him has led to tensions in international relations.

This action by the United States clearly affects regional alliances and specifically harms Saudi Arabia's relations with the U.S. Experts believe that this decision not only reopens old wounds but will also further weaken Washington's diplomatic efforts.

Saudi Arabia's Reaction and Its Consequences

Saudi Arabia has explicitly threatened that if this approach continues, it will withdraw from the Quad Group for Sudan, which includes the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE. This group seeks to establish a humanitarian ceasefire and a political process to end the war in Sudan. This threat from Saudi Arabia signifies the seriousness of its dissatisfaction with U.S. policies and challenges Washington's diplomatic capability in the region.

According to reports, the U.S. has canceled Al-Burhan's visa, and this decision is related to his position on the proposed 90-day ceasefire. For this reason, Sudan has asked António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to intervene with U.S. officials to ensure Al-Burhan's participation.

Guterres has also expressed deep concern over the visa denial, and his spokesperson has confirmed that the Secretariat has raised this issue directly with U.S. officials. The United Nations has asked the host country to ensure visa issuance in accordance with the commitments outlined in the UN Headquarters Agreement.

Given the tensions that have arisen, it seems that Saudi Arabia and the U.S. need to make greater efforts to improve their relations, as this crisis could have more serious consequences for regional security and stability.
