Early this morning, the Prydniprovska Thermal Power Plant in the city of Dnipro was targeted by a missile and drone attack, with reports indicating that around 21 missiles were fired at this power plant. These attacks are part of a larger coordinated operation against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, in which approximately 80 missiles and drones were launched at targets across the country.

Details of the Attack on Prydniprovska Power Plant

The Prydniprovska Power Plant was targeted in this attack using Kh-101 cruise missiles as well as Iskander-M and KN-23 ballistic missiles. Reports suggest that two of the cruise missiles were equipped with cluster munitions. This attack resulted in a severe fire at the power plant and caused significant damage to electricity production infrastructure.

Social and Economic Consequences

Following these attacks, over 200,000 people in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast faced power outages, and the energy company DTEK was forced to implement emergency blackouts in this region as well as in Kyiv. Ukrainian officials have described these attacks as a systematic effort to weaken the country's power grid ahead of the winter season. In addition to the Prydniprovska Power Plant, the Kryvorizh, Ladyzhyn in Vinnytsia Oblast, and Zmiiv in Kharkiv Oblast thermal power plants were also targeted.

These attacks clearly demonstrate the continuation of the war and tensions in the region and are likely to have more serious implications for electricity supply and the daily lives of the people of Ukraine. As winter approaches, the need for energy supply in Ukraine is increasingly felt, and these attacks could exacerbate the energy crisis.
