Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, today (Saturday) made serious and concerning statements, urging all parties to cease their attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. This plant, located in Ukraine, is one of the largest and most critical nuclear facilities in Europe, and any security threat against it could have serious implications for nuclear safety globally.

Risks from Attacks on Zaporizhzhia

Grossi stated in a declaration that the continuation of these attacks could lead to unfortunate incidents that not only threaten human lives but also harm the environment. He emphasized the importance of nuclear safety and security, stating that no attacks should be made on nuclear facilities and all parties must respect their international responsibilities.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, due to its geographical location in a tense area, has become a focal point of global attention. Since the onset of conflicts in Ukraine, this plant has been targeted multiple times, and concerns about the occurrence of a nuclear disaster are increasing daily. Grossi further stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency is continuously monitoring the status of this plant and is prepared to respond to any potential crisis.

International Efforts to Maintain Nuclear Security

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency also called on the global community to take immediate action to ensure nuclear security and safety in this region. He stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue as a solution to reduce tensions and stated that any military action near nuclear facilities must be strongly condemned.

Grossi also pointed to the dangers arising from military operations around the plant, saying: "We must learn from past experiences and prevent unfortunate incidents. This issue is related not only to the security of Ukraine but also to global security." He emphasized the necessity of international cooperation and solidarity in this regard, stating: "Only through collaboration can we prevent a disaster from occurring."

Finally, Grossi noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency will continue to monitor and oversee the status of this plant and will take the most urgent actions if necessary. He urged the involved parties to cooperate to maintain nuclear safety and security and to respect international principles.
