Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Donald Trump, the President of the United States, have reached an important agreement in a phone conversation, under which Russia will continue to supply diesel to global markets. This agreement comes at a time when the protracted war against Iran has had widespread economic repercussions for the United States.

Details of the Putin-Trump Agreement

In this conversation, Trump mentioned 300,000 tons of diesel that Russia will soon supply to the American and global markets. According to Trump, this supply, following the agreements made, will reach 500,000 tons in November and then another million tons. This decision is particularly significant ahead of the upcoming midterm elections in the United States, as Trump is trying to mitigate the negative effects of fuel prices on voters.

Economic and Political Implications

The midterm elections on November 3 present a golden opportunity for Trump to maintain his supporters by making appropriate economic decisions. He has explicitly stated that lowering fuel prices, especially for farmers and drivers, is one of his priorities. In this context, Trump referred to the Strait of Hormuz and claimed that control over this strait would help reduce prices.

At the same time, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has issued a temporary general license allowing the supply of Russian diesel to the global market until April 7, 2027 (April 18, 1406). This decision is particularly significant given the drone attacks on Russian refineries that have led to a significant reduction in diesel exports.

Recently, Putin emphasized in a statement that the supply of Russian oil and petroleum products to the global market will have a positive impact on the global economy. He expressed confidence that this action could help improve the economic situation of various countries.

The Situation in Iran and Its Impact on Russia-U.S. Relations

In this phone conversation, Putin and Trump also discussed the situation in Iran and its effects on bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington. Trump emphasized that Iran should not acquire nuclear weapons and considers this part of his strategy regarding Iran.

Trump's approach to Iran has caused dissatisfaction, especially among his supporters in the Republican Party. Many Republicans are concerned about the continuation of the war and its consequences on fuel prices and the country's economy. Therefore, the recent agreement with Russia could be an opportunity for Trump to alleviate these discontentments and maintain his political support.
