Najaf, as one of the important destinations for Iranian travelers, has recently decided to suspend its flights to Iran. This decision, made based on a directive from the management of Najaf Airport, has been announced due to "official directives" and has instructed airlines and operational entities not to take any further actions regarding the flights subject to this suspension.
The Reason for the Flight Suspension is Unclear
The directive does not specify the reason for the flight suspension or the authority that issued it. The management of Najaf Airport has stated that it will inform airlines if a new order is issued regarding the resumption of flights. This decision comes just two days after the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization announced negotiations to transfer flights from Baghdad to Najaf Airport.

Consequences of Flight Suspension for Passengers
According to reports, on Wednesday's flight schedule, 18 out of 20 flights from Najaf Airport were allocated to cities in Iran, highlighting the importance of this route for air connectivity between Iran and Iraq. Following the announcement of Najaf Airport's decision, the names of some flights from Tehran to Najaf are still visible on the departure board at Imam Khomeini Airport, and many passengers are waiting for clarity on their flights.
One of the managers of pilgrimage offices has also stated that his passengers, who were supposed to return from Iraq to Iran on Friday, will have to travel back by land due to the flight suspension. This situation indicates the serious challenges that have arisen for travelers.
Further Restrictions in Iran's Aviation Industry
The suspension of flights to Najaf is the latest instance of restrictions imposed on the foreign flight network of Iranian airlines in recent days. Previously, the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization announced that the airports in Baghdad and Muscat were refusing to accept flights from Iranian companies, while Azerbaijan and Georgia have also suspended Iranian flights. These restrictions appear to have increased due to recent U.S. sanctions against Iran's aviation industry.
Despite these restrictions, flights from Iranian companies to destinations such as China, Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Pakistan, and Belarus continue to operate. However, with the suspension of flights to Najaf, Iranian travelers will now face additional challenges in their journeys.
